Yes in a perfect world all you said would have happened
as you said. People of strenght and principal would have
refused to follow illegal orders or keep illegal secrets and all this
would have crumbled in fact the President and his gang would in
a perfect world known of the character of the people he was
trying to get to do illegal and immoral acts and would not have
bothered knowing it was going to fail.

However it is not a perfect world and people even good people
are flawed and prone to doubts and misteps. Heck at any given
time a handfull of people who simply refused to go along or
better still stand strong against the Nazi's would have prevented
a great deal of horror if they had been perfect or better at least
than they were in the 1930's.

Seems to me still that even though these people were not
perfect the leakers and the news paper (they should have leaked
much, much sooner) still finding their patriotisim and standing
even after making big mistakes is still better than what
happened in Nazi Germany. As for causing the Patriot Act to be
shut down....BRAVO!!! Won't get me upset over that one!!
