Thats OK but not from my experience.
Both systems were tweaked and all unecessary services shut off and timed with a stopwatch. SUSE cannot transfer files over a network as fast as Windows, even thru samba to and from a BSD server. If I put Windows on the server, Windows to Windows is as fast as Windows to BSD. Boy I am happy MS used the BSD TCP/IP stack.

80MBs retrieved from BSD in sec.
Windows = 15
SUSE =26
Ubuntu = 45

Downloads are the same. In all other benches Windows beat linux. Maybe they can make a tweaked one for H.S. that will close the gap.

You do know you can turn off the eye candy in XP and disable all multimedia features. All the gov't would do is order it setup that way for hundreds of thousands of clients. Dirt cheap too without product activation. I have gotten XP almost as fast as 2K. Besides I don't think anyone can order 2K anymore except retail shrinkwrap and a few left over OEMs. Both systems are rock solid when locked down.
