I see faster transfers and downloads with SuSE, or any version of Linux than with Windows and that is on a Windows network. Same thing with internet connections / downloads.
You have to be doing something wrong or your hardware is at fault i.e: 10MB NIC Vs. 10/100MB NIC.
Like I said my experiences with SuSE 10 have been excellent, and 200 + machines that have all met or exceeded requirements can't be wrong.
