Well you got a point except the SUSE part.
If you went with linux, the machine would run slower. Also XP locked down is quite secure. You just need a global security policy to restrict all clients on what they can do.

Getting back to HS, I would just run Win2k and/or XP with a new database. Combining this data from all of this custom cluster from the past will be a nightmare. Since they have to do it, why keep putting it off. It will only get worse. I would use SAP because Larry got cought working over California.
