I don't think of myself as an MS apologist, but I think certain facts must be taken into account:

Security, by and large, is hindsight. So patches are reactions to threats that occur when something that may unforseen (for whatever reason)happens. The number of "security patches" are a result of threats to the size of the platform, ie., the larger the platform, the larger the target.

MS is huge, which makes MS a huge target. All software has security bugs. There is no way to anticipate ALL security issues. When I read these posts from "apologists" for other platforms, the defense boils down to the fact that the given platforms are miniscule targets compared MS.

Now MS's response time in terms offering patches is a whole other discussion... BAD customer service!
