Don't blame Real for an M$ OS exploit!

All the comments I read here about Real vs.
QT vs. WMP vs. whosi-whatsis strike me as
largely irrelevant. It's the OS, not the players.
Sheesh!

The fundamental defect is in the
profoundly incestuous, and therefore
explicitly insecure, mating of OS and media
functions for - what else? - anti-competitive
purposes!! WMP is stupidly bolted in for
that reason, and obviously the same general
sets of APIs - or analogous ones - are used by
the other players. I'm not a coder, but it
seems pretty obvious to me.

How could an audio file - in a decidedly
third-party application - take over an entire PC,
userspace, OS kernel and all?

How could an application bug result in an
OS_exploit of the nasty, terminal,
$Billion-dollar variety?

How could M$ be so stupid/venal as to leave a
broad boulevard potentially open to the core of
an OS touted as really secure?

Ask Billg and MonkeyBoy, they make just
about the only OSes on the Planet that could
be exploited this way, right?

Lessee...
Windoze (most flavors) ---- YEP!
UNIX (any flavor) --------- NOPE!
LINUX (any flavor) --------- NOPE!
MACOSX (any flavor) --------- NOPE!
BSD (any flavor) -------- NOPE!
MVS (any flavor) -------- NOPE!
AS/400 (any flavor) -------- NOPE!
Mainframe...? Well, you see the pattern
emerging here, right?

Sorry, I can't vouch for Commodore64, Amiga,
Atari, KayPro or the Osborne, LOL...

This is a_criminal_joke. It's on the users, they
aren't happy, and they're not going to take it
any more..

Oh well, the Monoculture of inferior-by-design
M$ crapola is slowly dying. Too slowly, as I
want to flush all remaining M$ crap (I'm
compelled to retain for compatibility purposes)
out of my company ASAP.
