you kinda missed part of the point...
those things arent always going to be accurate. like any program you install on windows, if it isnt a microsoft product, you always get the "this program isnt signed by microsoft and may damage your computer". the "green bar" may turn "red" on a legit site.

mostly what jeff was trying to say is that people can and need to learn how to protect themselves. otherwise, "zig heil!"

it isnt hard to tell if you are on a legit page. i mean if you click a link that says "http://www.paypal.com" and it sends you to "http://somedudes.domain.com/accounts/.../secure.paypal.com/signin.php?iamaphisher" then you might realize something is up.

i went to one phishing link once that had a ... for a folder name. this is a valid folder name as . and .. are reserved, ... is not. i even tested it on my server. the domain was an online store and i reported it to their abuse. i mean, these are things that people can see.

and i have not yet seen a secure site doing phishing. it always says http://secure.something.whatever/securesignin.asp or whatever, but the http is a dead giveaway.

these are things people should be able to catch. just like you cant just go buy a car and start driving it. then expect that other people are going to protect you while youre driving. you dont know what youre doing but youre out putting around town in a new car. (people in my city do that all the time it seems)
they may need to make people get a license to use a computer. just like using shortwave or driving a vehicle. i hate to say it cause its one more thing i will have to complain about, but maybe people should have to take some form of basic evaluation before being allowed by an isp to connect to the internet. that might work happy
