I do see your point, and I can see your concern. I guess I see it on the very basic level that, as you pointed out, the authorities are not and have not "taken anyone away in cuffs" for not showing ID at the airport.

Once again, the directive is plain, doesn't prevent travel, and has no provisions for arrest, but only alternate security measures. The airline employees are bound by the directives, not the passengers, they have the choice not to fly. Think of the EULA, you aren't really forced into it, but if you want to use it you have to live by their rules, same with the airlines, their rules, your choice.

What people usually do get arrested for is making a scene at the airport when asked for ID, which would otherwise be a routine affair. We show our ID quite often, bank, CC purchases, liquor store, when pulled over for speeding, what's the difference. Didn't happy Gilmore eventually get arrested after a huge scene?

It seems to me that this story, and many others these days, has been blown out of proportion, possibly so it will be more exciting news, I don't know. Much-a-do about nothing-at-all. The whole "secret law" thing is a red-herring, nothing more, pure crap, spewed to offend. The term FUD comes to mind..... happy
