This isn't market forces making MS change. It's making them try to spin things with more "security by PR" efforts.

What are we getting from MS in response to these latest security problems and "market pressures"? Let's see, better profits because of strong PC sales:
Amid stronger-than-expected consumer PC sales, Microsoft on Thursday reported earnings that narrowly topped expectations. Its sales rose 6 percent from a year ago.
Note that it says because of consumer PC sales, not because of improved product quality.

MS's response to worries about security is to talk up Longhorn the next Windows OS which will "solve all the problems" (tm). I won't insult you by linking to that same claim as it was attached to every OS release from Win 95 on. (Or the releases championing the next OS that talk about all of the problems of the previous OS.)

No, until MS loses their OEM stranglehold and can't unilaterally shove new "innovation" down consumers' throats we won't see any market forces at play.
