Your ignorance is showing
Your statement is definitely off regarding medical professionals. My sister just finished med school and is now doing her internship. My cousin is also a surgeon. So, first off, you're ignorant on where most of the money goes in the medical field. Yes, doctors make some big money...but the lion's share still goes elsewhere, and its not the reason most go into the field. Secondly, no doctor I've met: my sister and all her medical friends, my cousin, nor any other doctor I've met separately, would ever wish that they could prolong anyone's illness, for any reason. They all put in long, hard, grueling hours to get through school and residencies, and then continue to work long hours, get paged at night and on weekends - going the extra mile so that people like you (nimwits who doubt their motivations) can lead happier and healthier lives. Most people are in the field to help others, not because of money. You need to get a clue!

Regarding antivirus, I'd expect it to be much the same. There are enough trouble-makers out there that the AV people don't have any need or desire to prolong or create any "job security" on their own. Think about it: when a new virus or worm is discovered in the wild, these people have to be up late, maybe even through the night, working on IDing the thing, getting a signature, and prepping a fix so the rest of the world can carry on. I think they have more motivation to get things secured than to allow allow any particular worm or virus to perpetuate. There's also enough competition in the AV market that if they don't do their best to contain and neutralize a threat, they will look pretty bad in comparison to other AV providers.

Bottom line: you're way too cynical. You should probably become a politician or lawyer.
