I agree with all your points
Only an IDIOT would ever install an .rpm file with the name FREE_DANCING_ELVES.rpm and NOT expect it to be a maliciously crafted payload.

How would Linux protect idiots from themselves better than Windows can protect idiots from themselves?

Mr. NonZealot is obviously a troll that is looking for someone to bait, and is just knowledgeable enough to know some Linux commands, and how to install.

Knowledgeable enough to have Linux running my email/file/print server, Linux as my main home desktop (except for games), and Linux as the OS in my MythTV box. What I'm not is fanatical enough to believe that Linux is the end all and be all of secure home OSs.

All the files in the repository are subject to inspection by everyone that comes along and if someone were to try such a sucky thing, the file would never make it past the repository doorway, let alone on to a working system.

What is the repository? I've downloaded .rpm files directly from vendor websites before, I certainly didn't have to go to the repository. Is the address www.therepository.com?

Linux users are more intelligent than that, and wouldn't just ASSUME that an .rpm file would be trustworthy.

I agree 100%. Linux users are pretty much all competent with computers and would never get a virus/worm/trojan on Windows either. You do nothing but prove my point that Linux is no better than Windows, only its users (for now) are. If Linux ever gets popular enough to attract the "unwashed", it too will suffer daily attacks from FREE_DANCING_ELVES.rpm style attacks.

Go away, TROLL, and look someplace else for someone to flame or try to fool.

If I was trying to "fool" anyone, you did nothing to "unfool" those people. All you did was help me convince that the users are what is keeping Linux safe, not the technical superiority of the OS. Thanks for the warm wishes though!
