...sort of works in Mozilla 1.5 as well. All I see on the status bar is...

http:// www. microsoft. com[] (unprintable character)

Better than unpatched IE where the telltale unprintable character doesn't doesn't show up in the status bar and the link properties dialog doesn't display the whole URL, although an unobservant user could still get fooled. In patched IE you're right about the behavior and the full URL won't show up until you click the link and get the "The page cannot be displayed" error.
