Okay, first of all, the protocol that deals with how Web
browsers' URLS are formed is HTTP. HTML has nothing to
do with it.

The HTTP standard used an older standard (RFC 1738) for
URL syntax (see 3.1, "Common Internet Scheme Syntax").
This RFC was published in 1994, but it was already widely
in use by FTP and Gopher clients.

Your claim that Microsoft invented this syntax shows that
you are profoundly ignorant about the history of the
Internet. I wonder how many other people's work you've
been giving Microsoft credit for.
