i agree with you
MS shoudl be held accountable for all of their mistakes and to fix their stuff. What i said was impractical was forcing them to replace their product with a competitors.. especially Apple/Mac.

Imagine the amount of headaches when joe "non-tech" is given a CD and told, here, this will fix windows, just install it. After some wrangling, he'll install loinux as a "full" installation is stuff that he doesn't need and probably wont know to patch... guess what.. lion v.2 or ramen v.2 and we are back at square one. While i agree that Windows is INHERANTLY more insecure than LInux because of it's core ties... a mass switch to Linux w/o proper education would be just as bad.

What i see as the solution are either:
1) force MS to continue supporting and product that they sell or offer free upgrades to their supported versions if a major hole is found.
2) force ms (and any other software company) to release into public domain, any code that they've sold, but no longer support. this way it can be supported by the community of it's own users at no cost to the company.
