NOT Almost Every Current Windows System
There you go again CNET/ZDNET in issuing a story that will needlessly frighten many Windows 98 and earlier users.

MS Blast affected only Windows 2000 and Windows XP users, NT users also being generally safe.

Where do you get this bunk that almost every current Windows PC is a Windows 2000 or Windows XP machine? Tens of millions of Windows 98, aging NT and earlier PCs are out there. And these machines are inherently Blaster-safe.

(By the way, the real story is how could these later 2K/XP, supposedly security-robust OSs, be WEAKER security-wise than the consumer OSs that preceded them!)

There are many weaknesses in the malware protection environment and one of them is that the media follow the MS lead and talk about only Windows 2000 and Windows XP in dealing with what is officially current and what needs to be patched.

As a side issue there are millions of aging Windows 98 and earlier PCs out there for which security fixes are virtually non-existent. They are still a threat and a burden relative to "current" Windows PCs.

Please please please: Let us see some precision in reporting malware issues, as well as less reliance in the MS marketing mantra that seems to condition lapdog media outfits to talk about only the "current" Windows versions.

When it comes to security you need to be complete and accurate in characterizations of malware threats.

Real news, please.
