It's also a shame that the consumer who paid big money to use an M$ OS is not educated about the various ways that M$ and others are surreptitiously connecting to peoples' machines.

"Why shouldn't a computer user be free to use whatever OS s/he desires, without having to worry about someone with a grudge against Microsoft (or SCO) turning him/her into collateral damage?"

Bwahahahaha!! Why shouldn't linux users and the OSS community be able to just use linux without the fright and jealousy of M$ having to pay off some sham company (SCO) to try to publicly smear a great OS and piece of open collaberative work? Why shouldn't Iraqis be able to walk down the street without American bombs landing on them? Why shouldn't I be able to keep my doors unlocked at night?...and on and on...

"You know, if you were truly "sorry" about attacking others' systems, you wouldn't do it in the first place."

These people, I'm sure, are only about as "sorry" as M$ has been when it causes the next wave of multi-billion dollar worldwide damage. Nuff said..
