Of someone that has priorities out of whack. Being fanatical about software doesn't make you very good, it only means that you are obsessed. You could be obsessed with the cartoon channel but that wouldn't make you a good cartoonist.

I know some stellar software engineers, but they are stellar no matter what tools they use. While we didn't have GUI RAD tools in telecommuncations I can tell you that we would used them if they were available. An intelligent person uses any tool that makes them more productive and manually coding the placement of user interfaces or any other process that can be automated is a huge waste of time if it is not necessary. Anyone that would do it by hand only because they can is not very good, they are a moron.

All of the software engineers that I have been really impressed with have all had real lifes and a normal hobbies, well most of them have 'normal' hobbies. happy

Did I make any mention of open source in the message that you replied to? I think not, don't go off topic.
