Go ahead and use the scriptkiddies favorite tools, why not use XML and .asp too? All very hackable.
Perl is an excellent language because of it's versitility. But it is still only as good as the programmer. They used to say Pascal was better than Basic because Pascal was "structured" and Basic was not. Gee, I thought it would be best if the freakin programmer was structured. Perl has the ease of Basic, in many ways with the power of C. You cant learn all the languages to use a different one for every application. If you are going to do SERIOUS back end code, use Perl. Learn it inside and out. It is a great tool because you can do most everything you want, and in your own way.

BTW, I hate C and Basic is too limited, and VBasic is too convaluted, PHP and XML is too open for hackers, and even SQL is easy to corrupt.

Write good Perl. Everyone will love you.
