On the whole...
I never thought Perl a very good language for developing network apps or anything else but quick and dirty scripts (though my employer did for a time market a compiled Perl script written by yours truly). I'm sure Larry Wall and company will fix this bug quickly, but the lesson remains.

BTW: The bogus headline is in poor taste and untrue. If it is the work of someone inside of ZDNet, that individual should be fired immediately. If it's the work of an external hacker, ZD should investigate and press charges.

Yes, I would have the same response if we were talking about Visual BASIC.
