I have an honest question?
Why is it the content owners responsibility to allow/provide any sort of playback of content on a PC? I mean the Music CD was/is primarily designed to work on Music CD players, not PCs.

Couldn't the content owners simply check to see what sort of player is involved and if it's a PC simply refuse to play at all?

They should of course lable it as NOT PC compatible but I doubt that would really hurt sales much, most people never play them on a computer anyhow.
