This will be coming back in about a year.
I disagree. You can't forget something that is still out there, and Sony's unrepentant public attitude (despite their actions towards making amends) reveals their underlying intent. It wasn't ticking people off that made Sony re-think their stance, but the implications that they might actually be doing something illegal.

Despite their removing the CDs from circulation, they have made it very clear that they feel totally justified in making their CDs incompatible with current players for the sake of copy protection. This issue is just the latest in what should prove to be a myriad of ill-thought-out ideas on reducing the consumer's rights to make back-up copies of their purchased music.

I don?t hate Sony. To be honest, most of what I own in the way of electronics is Sony. They just happen to be the latest bully on the block trying to convert their size and clout into revenues by forcing unwanted rules onto the consumer. In principle, I would have no problem with companies deciding to make incompatible products if more people who were similarly frustrated would just stop buying the crap. In the end, the consumer has all the power if he/she will use it. Just ask Tandy what ever happened to their big-selling ?IBM-Compatible? computers ? that weren?t.
