You have to admit it was an ingenious idea,
albeit underhanded!

An interesting thing I read about it (not reported on ZDNet) pointed out that they violated at least two copyrights to try and protect their own copyright.

Their software contains open-source libraries and programs which they are commercially distributing against the GPL.

Sony actually copy-and-pasted the code into their own program. They didn't even have the decency to link the GPL code properly, much less credit it.
