Return to the proprietary mainframe
Weel sonny, in my day we had the mainframe, with proprietary comm interfaces and no "slots" on the front of the terminal that would allow that pesky confidential data to leak out of.

Of course in those days, we didn't take work home with us, or have our bosses emailing us memos for instant responses while we taking a potty break. We didn't need to surf the Web because we had time to read the paper in the morning before work, and time to watch TV at night after work.

As someone else said, convenience is the opposite of security. What they didn't mention was that some of these gadgets are there because they are convenient for the employer to keep the wage-slave on a tight electronic leash.
