Root Kit Compatibility?
To answer your question directly, Sony?s specific root kit, according to Sony, will not run on Apple or Linux systems. But can you trust what Sony says?

Root kits were created originally for UNIX systems quickly migrated to LINUX and within the last few years started to make to appear on Window machines. I would consider Apple (UNIX) particularly vulnerable to commercially spread root kits like Sony?s that cloaks itself in software the user wants for two reasons. 1) Unlike Windows, there aren?t any friendly root kit discovery or removal tools for Apples OS-X and 2) OS-X?s reputation for robustness and security.

In contrast to the high level of paranoia in the Windows world most Apple users have never had a problem, don?t expect to have a problem and therefore wouldn?t have looked for a problem. If Sony had released their root kit for Apple instead of Windows saying it would have slipped under the wire and we wouldn?t be reading all the articles about it.
