mr. bush's many triumphs
It was a real pleasure seeing a political discussion in a blog devoted to technical matters. I was really impressed with 'awinsor's statement that President Bush'e only mistake was "leaving the clinton appointed beaurocracy in place instead of putting in his 'own' people."

Unfortunately the writer didn't provide any examples to justify his views. A few good examples would have added real weight and impact to his statement. Therefore, I would like to support 'awinsor's views with a few good examples.

In 2001, George Bush brought in Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Colin Powell, Condoleeza Rice, Carl Rove, and G. Gordon Libby. Perhaps the most important holdover from the Clinton adminstration Dick Clarke. Time and again Dick Clarke would try to warn people about Al Qaida and Osama bin Laden. He was denigrated and marginalized by the newcomers. They would say,"Dick Clarke's hair is on fire!" I trust that 'awinsor' regards Dick Clarke as the biggest mistake that George Bush made. perhaps if Dick Clarke had been fired, September 11 would not have happened.

Let us consider some of George Bush's triumphs according to 'awinsor'

Using bogus intelligence to sell the Iraq war --- that was not a mistake.
Believing that Iraqis would dance in the streets -- that was not a mistake.
Believing that Iraqis would jump at the chance to institute a democratic government -- that was not a mistake.
Not having enough troops to prevent widespread looting in Iraq -- that was not a mistake.
Not securing Iraq's borders so that terrorists could slip in -- that was not a mistake.
Not securing ammunition dumps where terrorists got bomb making materials -- that was not a mistake.
Disbanding Iraq's army -- that was not a mistake.
Firing all Bath party members from the government -- that was not a mistake.
Having no plan for rebuilding Iraq -- that was not a mistake.
Sending more than 2000 American servicemen to die in Iraq -- that was not a mistake.
Spending hundreds of billions of dollars in Iraq while FEMA was starved of resources and staffed with Bush's cronies and hacks -- that was not a mistake.

I hope that this posting will help make 'awinsor's comments seem more convincing.
