- PS3 and Right of First Sale...
-
I think I've heard a rumor going around that Sony would actually "tie" each copy of a PS3 game to the system of the person who purchased it. In other words, you will not be able to play this game on anybody else's PS3 once you've played it on your own*.
As far as I know, this may violate the right of first sale by attempting to exercise control over a product after they have already sold it. I know that I have heard of similar restriction attempts by game companies before--they try to prohibit the import of games from other regions (though to my knowledge, little if any real enforcement typically happens), or they try to prevent rental and used-game places from distributing used games in any way.
*I think Sega actually tried this with "Phantasy [sic] Star Online" for the Dreamcast, but that's an MMORPG, so that is a bit more understandable than, say, restricting the next Metal Gear Solid game. - Posted by: jbroche18 Posted on: 11/11/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
