Even more so
since the MS platform has the non-technical users mostly in mind, it should pre-configure the system with the highest security settings and spend money to aggresively campaign safe PC practices.

However, it is not only the security settings that make this platform so vulnerable: there are long standing design issues in the core of the system (eg. RPC subsystem) and the fact that application code now runs inside the kernel. Let alone that a common user is an administrator and code running on his behalf can rewrite any setting, system files and DLLs.

Even after so many embarrasing worm/virus outbreaks with culprit the MS windows and public exorcims of insecurity, MS STILL HAS NO DECENT WAY DEALING with the mess. They allowed to grow out of control in the first place.

In the Unix/Linux/MVS/VMS, etc world, a decently configured system cannot be compromised nor does it allow a user to compromise other systems. Why all these 'old' systems are so much better in terms of security but the so recent ms windows is not?

MS has NO interest in fixing their s/w any time soon:

1 - the sloppy code techniques has shortened the time to market. Since people don't react to the pre-beta code that are purhasing, why should MS care?

2 - the lack of comprehensive security justifies a continuous stream of 'better' and better systems. This is old MS tactic: it always promisses and conditions the consumer about s/w that does not even exist, then the s/w comes out late and it is usually nothing really different from the previous s/w version (minus cosmetic changes).

"Our next OS x will cure all security and deficiency issues", FOR x in { win NT 3.51, 4.0, win2k, winXP, longhorn, shorttale, ..... };

The blame is for the user who does NOT learn even after repeated broken PR promisses.

Bigger blame are with all the 'specialists' who go MS no matter what.
