I believe you are basically correct
Virus attacks are simply the electronic equivalents of vandalism. What is the attraction for vandals? Why do they get their kicks from damaging other people's property?

There is certainly no financial gain involved in salting someone's lawn or smashing their mailbox, yet it happens every day. People who do these things are mentally defective. They lack the ability to gain satisfaction from ordinary life activities, so they step into a world of criminal activity.

The bounty may help to catch the specific culprits in this case (and it also may NOT), but it won't eliminate future attacks. These electronic vandals will always find a way to get their kicks.
