Actually, not quite true.
The problem is that there are enough hackers who don't have a problem with causing somebody else's system to crash. Don't have a problem sending a virus, worm or rabbit to infect somebody else's system that hackers as a whole have gotten a bad rep. If hackers want to do something about that rep they need to start taking down the theives who are stealing other people's time, equipment and bandwidth rather than cheering them on.

Sorry, but I've worked the other side of this issue (the security side) for nearly 2 decades and have seen it get worse and worse. The fact is it's not discrimination to call a thief a thief it's a statement of fact. If you're logging on to somebody else's system without permission to do so you're stealing, period. If you're stealing you should be prosecuted and sent to jail period.
