devistation of a cisco based worm...
Cisco builds everything networking. They have remained on the fore front of top technologies in past years. Due to the number of critical networks that it's products protect, all security vulnerabilities of this magnitude must be taken seriously.

If I were the researcher that had found this type of 'critical' flaw, I ethically and legally would force myself to properly disclose the pertinent details asap.

Luckily for us internet users, Cisco is very very good at fixing security related issues. I found a nominal flaw in multiple consumer type routers. I had tried to contact management in Linksys through multiple avenues to no avail. Then I left a message with Mr. Chambers, linksys was calling me the next day.

Cisco has its act together. As long as their corporate ethics pertaining to security researchers refrains from threatening type of activities. Although in a best case scenario, there would be no reason for lawyers to get involved with a heap overflow.
