But throughout the time I've been running Windows, (which is the entire time I've owned a pc) I've only been hit by a virus 2 times, and the last time was back when I was running a 486/66 with Win95.

I bought a new PC in 00 with WinME and upgraded to XP and at the same time switched from Dial-up to DSL, installed ZAPro, and replaced Norton anti-virus with E-Trust Anti-virus software. Since then (a period of 4 years now) I have not been infected with 1 worm or virus. My ISP is Verizon and I get my content via MSN.

And I have not even seen one email message with the current worm or its predecessor. As far as I'm concerned, people who hate MS can believe what they want but the truth is that if it not for people that simply cannot resist opening unknown attachments we might not have so many of these things infecting personal and corporate networks/PCs.

But what I find extremely funny is that I have bumped into many people that have a broadband connection that DO NOT know that it is absolutely in their best interested to have a Firewall. And those that have anti-virus software don't bother to update it. As long as we have folks like this, these problems will persist regardless of who you try to point the blame at.

And the blame rests squarely on the creator of the virus/worm, although the end user has to take some blame for not being more careful.

Another interesting thing is, when I receive an email message in any of my MSN accounts that contains an unsafe attachment, I am denied access to that attachment. But even funnier is that the same thing applies here at work.
