Because it is valueless...
...and adds to vulnerability.

Interesting article in New York Times about 2 years ago. Initially, a lot of sites "took the easy way out" and just coded for AOL. Then it turned out that the demographics showed the AOL users were not from the young, afluent stratum that they wanted to attract. So they re-coded to standards. This is why you don't normally encounter those wierd sites anymore.

So "half the web pages" you visit don't show up properly? Just how much of your time are you seeking out "the clapper" and Depends?
