clarification
i'm not saying you shouldn't get paid. look at how i get paid, i put in x hours i get y $. part of me thinks that is right. but this is a philosophical argument that is beyond the scope of this practical issue.

as for song writters who sell their works to others.. that's when you make the money, from those people who you've sold the song to. if you deal with a major label and they rip you off, you should be banding together and making sure this practice stops.

face it, the record companies have screwed over BOTH the artist and the consumer. basically this will create a backlash on the artist until the artist gets away from the consumer.

most of the smaller and indie bands i've seen encourage the trading of their works. that's how metalica became popular even.

i'm not syaing you're entirly in the wrong, but this is a major issue that needs to be changed on several fronts and i'm just sick of the one sided attitude the media portrays about "thieves." you have you rright to get paid a fair value for your work, but we have a right to "fair use" and to pay a fair price for it. problem is there is someone in between who wants to over charge us AND under pay you.
