As much as I like *Nix ...
The problem won't go away if Microsoft died tomorrow.

The problem would shift to whomever the dominant O/S platform that would rise up in the ashes of Microsoft.

Although the problem is exasperated by the crappy security of Windows, no operating system is 100% secure and there is always scum out there would look at breaking the dominant O/S to cause economic damage and havoc.
