How it happened
I signed up for one of their newsletters, I
believe the XBox one, but requested plain-text
only. I requested this by checking off the
appropriate checkbox on the signup form.

However, they sent me only HTML messages. That's
fine, at that point it isn't spam. But after I
had unsubscribed three times, emailed them
several times, and sent them registered mail
demanding to be removed, it well and truly
crossed the line into unsolicited commercial
email.

You could make an argument that I NEVER asked for
HTML messages from Microsoft but I'm giving them
the benefit of the doubt on that bit. happy

Anyway, and for the record once again, once I
reached the right person at Microsoft, they dealt
with the problem immediately. It is just a shame
that their unsubscribe links didn't work, they
ignored their email, and they 'lost' a registered
snail mail that I sent them.
