But Hey, What About the Dramatic Price Hikes?
Sloppy reporting, ZDNet. Symantec has jacked up the price of its antivirus/firewall subcriptions mightily since they first started the perpetual pay system for updated data files.

When I first paid for a Norton AV sig subscription, it was something like $6.00 for the year. Now it's something more tnan $20 a year Canadians.

Worms my e-butt! Price increases surely have a lot to do with it. In Canada, it can be almost as cheap to buy the whole NAV/Firewall combo on special offer from Symantec (factoring in rebates) than to just keep using a rebought annual subscription. That doesn't mean a cheap product--it means expensive annual perpetual pay.
