Also, comming soon to Linux will be the ability to run downloaded files in their own VM completely isolated, no ability to open/read/write files, or make network connections.

If we had a diverse population of Linux (some Gnome, some KDE), Solars, Mac, a variety of browsers and email clients, a variety of media players, a variety of office suites, we would be 100x safer than we are now. We would also have 100x the inovation.

And, it will only get worse with all the code added willy-nilly to Longhorn.
