Wanna hear something funny? With Firefox the gesture for a new tab is rt. click-up. With Opera it's rt. click-down. Even though it doesn't seem like something major, I just can't get used to that. Actually, to be more honest, I don't see a need to become accustomed to new gestures, when the oldies work fine and efficiently. Wanna know how bad those "old habits" are? I almost always make a bookmark with a gesture over ctrl-d. When you take into account how absurd the gesture is to make a bookmark then you see how bad the addiction has become. It's basically an upside down question mark. Down-right-down-left-up! When I first tried it I thought the FF dudes were absurd for even creating that elaborate gesture. Now I draw it like I'm Ansel Adams.
BTW, I just thought..any gestures that are your favorites? Lemme fill you in on mine, that I use as instinctively as buttpaper: obviously left, right for going back and forth on pages, up for a new tab, up left/right to go to either the left or right tab, left-up to stop a page loading, up-down-up to reload a page from the web (over cache), and another good one (especially when you want to respond to a zdnet post that has been cut short by zdnet's run-on posting killer), down-up-down which duplicates a page. This way when I want to respond to a post that I can't directly respond to, I make a copy and then go to the post that I'm allowed to respond to (so I can look over the original post and respond to it while reading it, instead of drawing things from memory). Any wacky gestures that are your favs?
Wanna hear something nuts? A while back there was a Firefox article about whatever (probably how bad it is that they release patches in days over years ;-)) and people were commenting about the browser. Strangely enough, many people did NOT use gestures at all! I thought that was nutz! People were saying it was overrated, awkward, etc..and all I was thinking was "how do you not at least use rt-click left/right to cycle back and forth btwn pages?!?!? That's like someone saying to me that they'd rather crawl along the ground as opposed to using their feet! - Posted by: Jeff Spicoli Posted on: 10/19/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
