Cat and Mouse game...
"A total of 5,259 phishing sites were spotted in August, up substantially from 4,564 in July, according to the Anti-Phishing Working Group. At the same time, the number of spam e-mail campaigns to lure people to phishing sites decreased for the second month in a row, from 14,135 to 13,776, the APWG said."

O.K. So the number of phishing sites went up; the number of spam campaigns went down...just a game of "cat & mouse". I hope people keep getting smarter and smarter, so we can all read headlines like: "Number of phishing sites: 6000. Number of spam campaigns: 20,000. Number of people duped: 0"

I suppose this may not happen in any of our lifetimes, but there's always hope. I mean, isn't the goal of all phishing sites/spam campaigns pretty much the same -- they all want the user to log in personal information and/or account numbers so that the keystrokes may be logged, and the person/persons behind the scam can steal your account information, or even worse, your identity? When will people realize that legitimate (financial) sites will NEVER ask for personal information; I can't think of any that will even contact a customer via e-mail; it's usually the customer that must call the institution if there's problems with his/her account. Let's get everyone educated -- this will probably mever stop scam attempts, but at least it could perhaps make it less worthwhile for people to devise the scams in the first place.
