Script kiddies are more sophisticated...have been for quite some time.

Just the other day I witnessed a totally patched and up to date Windows XP Pro desktop suddenly reboot out of the blue and then the user was locked out of the system...the admin pw and user pw were changed. Then the PC went into promiscuous mode and began attacking other systems in the network.

The PC was a test machine to make sure the patch didn't break critical application functioning and is normally totally isolated, but when simply plugiing in a live internet connection (FW and IDS) the machine was instantly hit.None of the users had interacted with internet email or anything remotely similar to user carelessness.

This nasty attack is totally new and came in from the wild...given MS's slow response to reports of vulnerabilities, this not a zero-day exploit, this is a minus-30-day exploit.
