Patches don't matter
Installing the patches, aye, there's the rub!

Let us not forget that most worms that have infested Microsoft products have done so through exploits of vulnerabilities that Microsoft knew existed and in many cases already had patches for! And yet these worm propogated throughout the known universe at amazing speed! How could that be?!?

It's simple: people are stupid. It doesn't matter that Microsoft is busy patching its code; they could find every flaw and bug, make a fix for it tomorrow, and it still wouldn't matter! Why? Because to most users, a computer is a box sitting on some flat surface and they don't know any more about its inner workings or vulnerabilities than they do about the same in the cars. Update my software? Why? Doesn't it work already?

These are the same people that, no matter how loud you scream, will still open attachments from senders they've never heard of before!

The problem will only be solved once there are squads of jack-booted software engineers whose task will be to break into people's homes and force them to apply the patches at gunpoint. Until then, anyone for worms?
