This would have bothered me...
Yup, this certainly would have bothered me to no end a few years ago. However, Symantec's antivirus became so bloated it slowed my system down way too much. When my last copy of Norton went down, I switched to a competitor, (Avast antivirus), and now have free antivirus and free updates. Avast even found a virus lurking in the bowels of my system that Symantec never spotted, yet another bonus for switching.

As if the pot weren't sweet enough for leaving Symantec, my ISP recently began giving a nice AV and internet security software package for free to it's subscribers. So even without Avast's free offering, I'd have access to a decent AV.

Symantec has already lost the battle, and rather than try to step in and fight for market share, they've decided to put the screws to their remaining customers by pricing themselves right out of the market.

So long, Symantec. You were great for years, but now you'll fall under the weight of your own bloated code. End of an era? Mebbe...NOT.
