The real issue
The real issue here is whether or not to bash Microsoft. Yes, I know I am running the risk of sounding like a MS crony, but we run a Microsoft shop here. We make sure we apply the updates as quickly as possible after there release. Do we do this because Microsoft markets a shoddy product or is this part of our normal operational procedure for dealing with the world we livi in?

We have a responsibility to our end users to provide the data they need on a daily and timely basis. Security holes threaten that. Not because the software is buggy but becase there are cretins out there that would hack systems to either steal or destroy data. Security updates are not the product of bad software but the product of a seriously flawed world that awards activities like hacking with either money or some form or prestiege (don't laugh, how many times do we hear about the wars that go one between groups of "kiddy" hackers that go around defacing web sites).

Go ahead and do the MS bashing, rant and rave about the merits of Mac OS, Unix, Linux and all other alternative OS's. But until we do something about the world we live in remeber this: "Let he who is without sin...."
