And, think about it, Google has never been down for any significant period of time. Yes, some slowdowns because of viruses that attacked Windows computers and caused a flood of requests to Google.

For indivitual users, you are 10x safer using a service vs having the program installed on your computer.

And, if they allocated a process for every user obtaining service, you can only crash THAT account, not everybodys account.
