Well, right now, with Linux, yes. There are no viruses / worms out there of
any significance. I have been using nothing but Linux for almost 4 years, and I run NO anti-virus, NO anti-spyware, I have the local firewall enabled at the lowest setting so it won't get in my way. I keep it patched. I connect myself to the bare web at times, and at other times I am protected by at least a NAT router.

Now, as Linux gets more popular, it might be more of a target, and there might come a time when we need anti-virus and/or anti-spyware. But, that said, the facilities of Linux are designed in such a way that it is a lot harder to attack. Also, the code is not bloated like Windows. I think the number of lines of code is probably 5x less or so. And, finally, people don't have any reason to hate Linux, it is not a big dirty corporation that breaks the law and screws its customers. Sure, there will be some that TRY to write viruses for Linux, and a few will be successfull, but we won't ever see the volume you do with Microsoft.

Using Linux is like Using a Mac. You never even think about viruses and spyware. You never have any of those problems. Potential? Yes, but the probability is so low, not worth thinking about. Propably more likely to get struck by lightning.
