I gave up on the paid version
I bought ZoneAlarm Pro several years ago because I liked the granular control and added security features. I've put up with its quirks over the years (including a nasty one that caused it to eat up all system resources), but I finally had my fill with it recently. I installed a new SATA drive in my computer, and shortly afterward my PC (XP w/SP2) started blue screening whenever I tried to do more than one thing at a time.

I beat my head against the wall trying to fix it, going so far as to rebuild my PC fresh with XP, but to no avail. Also, other apps, such as some of my favorite games, quit working as well. Finally, when my PC started bluescreening every time ZoneAlarm loaded, I realized what was happening and uninstalled the firewall. I haven't had a bit of trouble since.

ZoneAlarm Pro used to be nice, but now it's a conglomerated piece of bloatware that tries to do everything for you (antivirus, anti-spyware, all complete with nag screens every boot). Zone Labs needs to take a step back and look at what it was that made their product so great, and what it has become now. I have a hardware firewall (built into a WLAN router) and am running the Windows Firewall, and that seems to be working perfectly well for me. I don't plan to go back to ZoneAlarm any time soon, if at all.
