Really?
Funny how people rehash old quotes from a security firm. Nah, there not trying to sell their wares but when a security company says something towards Apple ...well that's different and unfounded. There's that double standard again.

From Sophos Jul 1 2005:
"There is now a 50% chance of being infected by an internet worm in just 12 minutes of being online using an unprotected, unpatched Windows PC."

They give no support for this and I wonder how their still allowed to spew that given the current SANS survival time.

Then there's the famous and often misquoted report from Thomas Sprinkmeier published by the SANS Institute. His exact quote was this:
"At the time of writing this article, a fresh Microsoft Windows XP install has a survival time of less than 20 minutes"

That was only for XP and pre SP2. Looking at the stats now the survival time has more than tripled from Pre SP2's lowest points. It's now at 39 minutes without applying any security updates and without installing and/or updating any defense apps. Of course SANS also publishes a Pre SP2 guide on how to make the fresh install not get infected at all while you're getting it setup.

And I don't know about all nix but the average survival time for an unprotected and unpatched Unix box is about 1253 minutes. That's great but a tad under "10 days - never"
