Do you really know what you're saying?
Monsieur PeterWeter,

Please refer to this press release by the security firm mi2g:
___________________________________________________
London, UK - 19 February 2004, 17:30 GMT - A study by the
mi2g Intelligence Unit reveals that the world's safest and most
secure online server Operating System (OS) is proving to be the
Open Source family of BSD (Berkley Software Distribution) and
the Mac OS X based on Darwin. The study also reveals that Linux
has become the most breached online server OS in the
government and non-government spheres for the first time,
while the number of successful hacker attacks against Microsoft
Windows based servers have fallen consistently for the last ten
months.
___________
I have a question for this statement:
"Oh, btw, I also haven't had any security problems with Windows
(since I have Windows set up to stay up to date with security
patches automatically). No spyware. No viruses. No worms. So
what does that tell you? How are you "better off" than I am,
security wise?"

Well, I can say the same for my computer which runs Mac OS X.
4.2. Security for those who are informed is totally different than
security for those who are not aware. You must also keep in
mind that not all Apple "fans" (as you call them) are content with
Apple's response to "Security problems." Sometimes I would say
we are disappointed in the response and other times we are
happy that they are taking initiative.

I would submit however that most Apple-specific "security
issues" that are deemed "critical" by computer security
companies are physical exploitation holes. So, essentially most
are proof of concept holes that haven't been "in the wild." In
some cases it is a problem with Apple's code but they do fix it.

I've used Mac OS X since 2001 and haven't personally had a
breach at all. On the subject of personal security, wouldn't it be
purdent to help other users secure their version of the Microsoft
than to spout that your version of the os is the most secure.

On this subject, I have helped both Mac and Windows users and
in both cases, they have a secured os but since Microsoft
decided not to write its kernel and core conponents with the
internet in mind, they had to patch it over in a most insecure
fashion.
