Not read for prime time
The short version is: Cisco VoIP not read for prime time.

Basically there are two many pieces missing. The system modules fail to integrate with themselves much less exteranl systems. Cisco VoIP vendors are unfamilar with the technology. We have a PRI blasting electrons into open air because the cisco vendor neglected the fact that the equipment they sold us could not support two PRI's. We want to know if we have sufficent capacity on the single PRi but nobody, including CISCO, can figure out how to get a simple channle utiliztion report.

The advantages that VoIP are supposed to offer are vaporware. Paging over the VoIP phones ... see a third party. Want to use TAPI to integrate the VoIP phone system with your computer. Sorry. Reduce cost by sing VoIP over your WAN. The WAN will not support as many onversation as it would with Analog equivalent unless you se codecs for compression .... but many features are not supported when using codes .... well they are supported ... they just do not work. Be prepared to pay a premium for any feature that you would have consider standard with you traditional phone system.

Have a enviroment where enouceators are needed (manufacturing, hearing impaired) then Cisco only solution is run a $250 ATA devicein parrallel with the VoIP device and attach an analog device from your old system. An order of magnitude cost increase and twice the infastructure. This is an excellent example Cisco's aproach to VoIP. Efficeny and cost are of concern to Cisco.

Cisco ... the last resort for VoIP.
