IT Scion...
"Cracks me up how many people think Active X is some sort a module within the OS."

Who thought that? Wasn't me.. ActiveX is from OLE and COM.. yay.. You got atleast one part right.

"One of the replies stated something about ActiveX controls being used within the OS and yest they are but that is way off the point of the Active X control issue."

How is it off the point? I don't even have to have IE installed on my computer to get ActiveX components raiding my Windows Explorer. How can you also say they are being used within the OS then in the next previous breath saying they aren't apart of hte O/S?

IE IS A PART OF THE OS. Plain and simple.

"The problem that IE, and MS, had was with the silent installs of ActiveX controls over the web. Other than that, there isn't much to worry about. The same OS level precautions would apply. "

Problem is.. With P2P no one takes precautions. :P

"I love it when people throw up the Active X flag without really knowing why they are waving it. Get this people...the issue was with Active X controls being silently installed by malicious websites through the browser. The issue is not that Active X objects, or controls, merely exist."

You're obviously not talking about me here then, because I use them. Program with them and know all about them. :P

The issue IS that ActiveX by itself is an INSECURE technology because of the way it's embezzled itself in the O/S.

By the way, I also love it when people deny that in itself ActiveX although a feature, is insecure. Too bad people who usually make these judgements usually aren't even programmers.
